Show Description
It all started on a park bench one sunny afternoon, when Michael Prini and Nik Manojlovich decided to create a show on entertaining in the home. Buckets of paper, innumerable meetings and a skim through a book of synonyms and Savoir Faire was born.
The show was an instant hit. Savoir Faire won an award from the Canadian Cable Television Association in its very first season. It’s had numerous Gemini nominations, topped by Nik’s win as Best Host of a Practical Information Series. Even its website, www.savoirfaire.ca was the first ever to win the “Most Popular Website” award from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
Now, all 78 episodes and six one-hour specials of Savoir Faire are welcomed into homes across Canada, the USA and around the world. Nik makes an instant connection with viewers in multiple languages (some dubbed, of course). And it’s truly amazing to hear from you – your comments and support are like those of a close friend. It’s nice to know you’re out there and that even a park bench can inspire!
Episode 01 — Clambake
Clams, lobsters and mussels take centre-stage in Savoir Faire’s day at the beach. Host Nik Manojlovich details what delectable dishes to prepare ahead of time and what can be made right on-site. Taking to the waves has never tasted so good!
Episode 02 — A Fine Romance
Food and mood share equal importance on a romantic night. Host Nik Manojlovich’s hand-made candles cast aglow a table resplendent in fine china, tableware and stunning flower arrangements. Shrimp cocktail, Rock Cornish game hen and Nik’s Love Potion take the evening to sublime heights.
Episode 03
Lasting Nik Manojlovich performs magic with a series of amazing projects, each of which can be done in under an hour! Tasty bouillabaisse, invitations for any event and personalized host gifts will make you an entertaining star among family and friends.
Episode 04 — Wine Country
Savoir Faire takes you on a trip to one of Canada’s top vineyards, where we discover just what gives a vintage true value. Fine cheeses breads also share the spotlight. Nik Manojlovich gives us a primer on which glass for which wine and the finer points of corkage.
Episode 05 — Sunday Stuff
Still in his pj’s, host Nik Manojlovich prepares a delicious breakfast in bed that spells weekend in a big way! He then prepares a back to school lunch worthy of a gold star. To cap the day Nik invites a friend to his loft to show us his collection of vintage tableware.
Episode 06 — In the Pink
Savoir Faire celebrates all things pink in this special episode. From floral arrangements to pink pasta and one colour dining, host Nik Manojlovich makes it all as tasty as it is inviting. A visiting colour specialist adds her opinion on why pink is perfect for the home and for entertaining.
Episode 07 — Another Year
Savoir Faire takes on a Chinese-themed birthday party. Host Nik Manojlovich pulls out all the stops: he takes us shopping for fun and inexpensive accessories, creates a simple, yet authentic birthday dish and transforms his entire loft for this splendid celebration!
Episode 08 — The Markets
Savoir Faire is off to an historic city market very early one Saturday morning. Host Nik Manojlovich pinches plums and talks tenderloin with the best of the vendors. He also shows you how to buy the best locally grown produce possible!
Episode 09 — Happiness Is...
Savoir Faire’s trapped inside on a stormy day. Host Nik Manojlovich bakes up three very different and delicious types of pizza. He then moves onto to his infamous Nik’s Pik’s – pickles with attitude. Once the canning’s all done a friend drops by to help him relax through aromatherapy.
Episode 10 — South Seas Feast
Mu Mus, PuPus and Mai Tais are the order of the day as Savoir Faire sets sail on a backyard journey to Polynesia. Trader Nik Manojlovich leads our culinary voyage, starting with food prep and themed projects. Nik fnishes off by decorating his entire home in an undersea motif – spectacular!
Episode 11 — Everywhere
Flowers are essential to any kind of entertaining. Host Nik Manojlovich goes all out to show just how important, by taking us to a crack of dawn flower auction, and visiting a friend’s floral studio to see how the pros pull together stunning arrangements. Nik also candies edible flowers for cakes and other sweet goodies.
Episode 12 — Weekend Guests
What to do when company’s coming! Host Nik Manojlovich is full of ideas to make any weekend pleasurable for guest and host alike. From preparing a comfortable bed to providing forgotten toiletries and board games Nik’s got it all covered. Terrific recipe ideas keep your time in the kitchen to a minimum!
Episode 13 — With Thanks
How to let friends and family know their hospitality is truly appreciated? Nik Manojlovich has some simple, yet beautiful ideas as host gifts. They range from home-made candles to door wreaths and a unique photo transfer process. It’s the thought that really works!
Episode 14 — En Francais
Pretend your feet are planted firmly on the Champs Elysees! Nik Manojlovich sets a formal French table replete with engraved place cards. He teaches us the ins and out of serving champagne, prepares a delicious roast duck and we learn about antique Limoges service pieces. Oh la la, c’est magnifique!
Episode 15 — Pik Nik
From basket to blanket, it’s an outing you won’t soon forget! Host Nik (Pik Nik. See what we did there?) Manojlovich shows you how to dine out with style by creating a variety of delicious hero-sized sandwiches, using vintage picnic linens and setting it all up under the perfect shady oak!
Episode 16 — 50's Redux
Savoir Faire steps back into the 50′s, as Nik Manojlovich brings out the best Melmac and arborite money can buy. We learn all about Russell Wright vintage dishware from our collectibles expert. Nik creates a delicious, stick-to-your-ribs meat loaf and mac and cheese! We promise – no jello molds!
Episode 17 — La Dolce Vita
Savoir Faire’s homage to the sweet life! An Italian grandmother visits Nik Manojlovich’s kitchen, giving him secrets to the best ever Bolognaise sauce. Then it’s all about fresh and dried pasta. Nik sets a peasant Italian table and gives us suggestions on how to use Italian liqueurs.
