I’ve had the opportunity to interview several celebrities, singers, Oscar and Emmy winners and Kristine W was one of the most down to earth individuals I’ve had the privilege of interviewing. It was as if I was having a conversation with a close friend.
She has had several hits including “One More Try” “Feel What You Want” and “Loving You” that was included in on the Queer as Folk soundtrack.
Kristine owns a potato farm, was crowned Ms. Washington 1981 and excelled both the swimsuit and talent competitions at the Miss America pageant. Throughout all her struggles and her love for her fans and the LGBT community, she is still so humbled after all these years and continues to do what she loves.
Tell me about your latest release “New & Number One’s”
Kristine W: There are 9 new songs and 4 of my classic number one hits that have been reproduced with a brand new remixer. It’s a variety of dance music and it was fun to write and I had a blast collaborating with Bimbo Jones.
It must be such a great sense of accomplishment to look back on everything you have accomplished. You were the small town girl from Washington State, cancer survivor, traveled the world touring and now you have your own record label.
Kristine W: It was hard and it was scary, I started the label in 2008, its not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. But it seemed like the right thing to do at the time and I could get more music out to people faster and it worked for me.
Thats great, looks like you are making a go of it.
Kristine W: Yes thank you, I’ve had 8 number ones since the start of the label, its been amazing.
How do you perceive today’s music? For me it has changed so much through the years. I feel as if the 80’s & 90’s were two of our best decades. And now it seems as if its much easier for others because of reality shows etc and they do not have to put all the sweat and tears into it like artist as yourself and others who have had to work to get where they are today.
Kristine W: Personally it is rewarding, not financially (we laugh). But if you create music and you are proud of every single piece of music you have done and the amazing people that you have worked with it gives you a great sense of accomplishment.
You have a huge LGBT following. It must be a thrill when you are playing the pride festivals and to feel all the love and energy.
Kristine W: It is so much fun, the people are amazing and “they get it”. My core following, they see all the blood, sweat and tears I put into my shows and I am so grateful to have an audience that appreciates it.
On your website you have page called “Kristine Cares”, what can you tell me about that?
Kristine W: My whole tribe, everyone that works with me is very sensitive to what is happening to the planet, the care for animals, the food that we eat, preserving mother Earth. We started it so that people can and see what is important to us and its a great place for people educate themselves on these topics.
I read somewhere that you are considering recording a country album, is that true?
Kristine W: That is definitely on the list. My Dad was a country artist, so its in my blood. I I want to be like Elvis and record an album in every genre!
Is there anything on you list bucket list that you have not done that you would like to accomplish?
Kristine W: Continue to bring the world together through music. I’ve been blessed to have collaborated with so many wonderful artist around the world and look forward to working with many others.
